A short description of the Coastal Dune Lake community from The Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) is “basin or lagoon influenced by recent coastal processes; predominantly sand substrate with some organic matter; Panhandle; salinity variable among and within lakes, and subject to saltwater intrusion and storm surges; slightly acidic, hard water with high mineral content (sodium, chloride).” A full description can be found in FNAI's 2010 Guide to the Natural Communities of Florida.
